Strength of a soft PZT ceramic under a transverse electric field

摘要
Strength measurements were carried out on a lead zirconate titanate (PZT) ceramic with different electric fields in the unpoled and perpendicularly-poled state. A significantly lower strength was observed at a strong electric field. The influence of the externally applied electric field was explained in terms of the orientation of domains ahead of natural cracks.
