On the influence of repulsive forces upon the movement of ions in water: A simple model

摘要
The participation of repulsive forces in the movement of ions in water is discussed in a simple context, namely by recognizing that the interaction, resulting from their electronic charge distributions, between ions and water molecules produces a repulsion between them, due to Pauli's exclusion principle. This is a quantum mechanical effect which, to our knowledge, has not previously been taken into account in treatments of this phenomenon. We have included this repulsive interaction as a Born-Mayer-type term in the equation for ionic conductance published by Zwanzig some years ago. The corrected ionic conductance obtained in this way fits experimental data fairly well.
