摘要
Multimedia applications are driving the mobile and fixed wireless networks of the future toward supporting data bearing services. However, in a wireless environment, especially those involving mobile terminals, the communication environment is changing continuously. Under the conventional system design paradigm, the setting of modulation, spreading, and coding/interleaving parameters is usually fixed and made a priori. Because the channel conditions can change continuously over a wide range of conditions, the effectiveness of a combined spreading, coding, and modulation strategy is less than optimal for many cases. In this work, we present the development of MASSCoM, a Multi-Adaptive Spread Spectrum Coding and Modulation protocol in which channel measurements are employed to adapt the frequency hopping spreading strategy, the modulation options, and the coding scheme to maximize throughput while maintaining target BER performance goals.
