PUBLIC PARKS AND GARDENS IN OPATIJA

As a famous tourist destination in the northern part of the Croatian Adriatic Opatija is renowned for its hotels and villas dating from the time of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. The book presents the topic of public parks and gardens in Opatija: Angiolina, Sv. Jakov, Margarita, Slatina, Drago Gervais, Imperial, Esperia, Bulgaria and the park in Vladimir Nazor Street. Interdisciplinary interpretation of gardens and parks include the date of creation, changes in uses and names through time, size and location, types of plants diachronically analyzed, park architecture, stylistic features and park and garden layouts. Opatija's parks and gardens are compared to similar tourist parks in the surrounding area (Crikvenica and the islands of Veil Losinj, Mali Losinj and Rab) and with similar world famous parks in Nice, Sanremo, Rimini, Portoroz.
