QoS-Aware admission control for video-on-demand services

摘要
Admission control schemes for video-on-demand servers try to achieve the maximum admission rate. However, the quality of service (QoS) reduction caused by admitting requests has not been considered adequately. Thus, it is doubtful that servicing the maximum number of sessions can bring in the maximum revenue. We presents a QoS-aware admission control scheme that admits requests after considering both QoS reduction and resource utilization. Simulations with various traces show that the QoS-aware scheme delivers higher service revenue than a scheme that maximizes the admission rate.
