摘要
Thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) are currently used for lifetime improvement of highly loaded turbine blades and vanes in aeroengines and land-based gas turbines. The current prime choice are partially yttria stabilized zirconia EB-PVD TBCs. Next generation TBCs require improved sinter resistance, phase stability, thermal insulation, and a controlled interface to the metal. The paper presents the phase transformation and sintering behavior of current EB-PVD TBCs, and furthermore, modified TBC systems such as discrete alumina interlayers, graded alumina/zirconia transition layers, and fully yttria stabilized zirconia ceramics. Microstructure and lifetime of these TBC systems are discussed with regard to processing and properties.
