Many genetic disorders affect the mouth and oral mucous membranes. This article provides a focused review of specific genetic disorders that affect the mouth and have associated dermatologic features. In many of the conditions presented, such as MEN 2B, Carney syndrome, Cowden syndrome and Peutz-Jeghers syndrome, the oral findings are distinct and may provide the first clue of an underlying genetic diagnosis. Clinical features and available molecular genetic testing are reviewed for each condition.
