Glow discharge optical emission spectrometry (GD-OES) is a rapid technique for surface and bulk analysis of solid materials. Using radio frequency, scientists can analyze both conductive and nonconductive samples. Recent advances in spectrometer control have extended the dynamic range of the instrument, and multimatrix calibration means that scientists can now analyze and depth profile a wide variety of materials with a single calibration.
