Spinal epidural hematoma in hemophilia-A - A case report

A case of a 10-year old boy with an anterior spinal epidural hematoma in the cervical spine is presented. Subsequent to the MR examination clinical and laboratory work-up revealed the child to have a severe form of Hemophilia-A. Thee intraspinal bleeding was the first manifestation of this disease in the boy; the site of bleeding too was unusual. Subsequent imaging studies after treatment with Factor VIII replacement are also depicted. The pivotal role of MRI in the diagnosis of the hematoma is stressed. In a young male child with these clinical and imaging features, one should investigate the possibility of hemophilia and congenital coagulation defects.
