摘要：

The article is dedicated to the needs of the development chemist who wants to incorporate an asymmetric catalytic transformation in the synthesis of an API. The following issues and questions are addressed: The importance of enantioselective hydrogenation; what makes a successful hydrogenation catalyst; screening strategies during feasibility studies; where to get a reliable supply of chiral ligands for development and production; and finally the advantage of choosing a partner who also provides metal precursors as well as metal recovery and refining services.
