Radar cross section (RCS) reduction has been a topic of interest for a long time; on the other hand, RCS enhancement has gained significant interest recently in the automotive industry to improve road safety. This paper introduces an efficient way to improve/enhance the RCS of an object using topology optimization. A planar metal sheet is used as an example to demonstrate the concept. Global response surface method (GRSM) for double objectives topology optimization is used. Numerical results show a promising use of topology optimization for RCS enhancement. The optimized structure shows around 10 dB improvement of the RCS.
