摘要
To keep in line with other Member States of the European Union Ireland introduced its Occupational Health and Safety Legislation in November 1989 (Safety Health and Welfare at Work Act 1989). This Act outlined the general principles for the prevention of occupational accidents and methods for the protection of health and safety in the workplace. The Irish legislation was introduced in the same year that the European Community's Council of Ministers adapted the Framework directive on Health and Safety at the Workplace. In 1998, almost 10 years after its introduction a number of surveys were carried out to determine the level of compliance with that legislation within the catering and tourism industry.
