摘要
A human powered aircraft named the Raven has been designed. The Raven incorporates advanced materials to produce rigid wing and fuselage skins and a cantilever wing construction which should allow it to set four world records in human powered flight. Design specifications call for an aircraft with a wingspan of 35 m, a weight of only 34 kg, a cruising velocity of 32 km/hr, and a range of 160 km. The aircraft is currently under construction by over 350 volunteer students and industry professionals. Tooling for most of the structural parts of the aircraft is complete. Manufacture of prototype fuselage components required development of an unusual double vacuum bagging process. This process has been used to produce prototype parts that, while over design weight, suggest that the design specifications are achievable.
