Ultrasonic inspection of welds:: Evaluation of critical indications with the aid of modeling.

A model for the evaluation of critical results from ultrasonic weld inspection is presented. Interfering indications from geometry, especially from the root can be calculated by the model within a few minutes. The model can consider different reflector types like arbitrarely oriented and positioned rectangles, ellipses, flat bottom holes, side drilled holes and notches. With respect to reference reflectors, an echo height estimation can be carried out. The model can also be used by NDT- personnel for training purposes.
