Seferis and French Literature in his Poetic Formation: Testimonies from the Correspondence with his Sister

George Seferis was one of the most important Greek poets of the twentieth century. Awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1963, his work became well known all over the world and was translated into many languages. The strong influence the authors of French Romanticism and Symbolism had on his formation and on his poetic work is evident in the correspondence he maintained with his sister Ioanna during the years the poet was a student in Paris. The objective of this work is to analyze how French literature strengthened the basis of young Seferis' poetic style.
