Since 1995, the centre-of-mass energy of the LEP e(+)e(-) collider has been increased successively from 130 GeV to 189 GeV. It has extended the kinematic domain for potential discovery of new particles. The status of the Higgs boson searches within both the Standard Model (SM) and the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) is reviewed for all four LEP experiments. The prospects for SM Higgs searches within the context of the complete LEP2 programme through the year 2000 are also discussed.
