The latest results of Higgs boson searches from four LEP experiments, ALEPH, DELPHI, L3, and OPAL, are reviewed on the basis of data taken in 1996 at c.m. energies between 161 and 172 GeV. No signal was observed. A 95% C.L. combined lower mass limit for the minimal-standard-model Higgs boson was increased from 66 GeV at LEP1 to 77.5 GeV with first LEP2 data. In the model of two Higgs doublets, the limit on the mass of the charged Higgs boson increased from 44 to 54.5 GeV, irrespective of the decay branching ratio. Large new regions in the parameter planes (m(h), tan beta) and (m(h), m(A)) are ruled out within the minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model. Preliminary results of the 1997 data taking at 183 GeV are presented, and prospects for discoveries in the near future are discussed.
