In-situ synthesis of Al/(TiC+α-Al2O3) and Al/(TiAl3+TiC+α-Al2O3) alloys by reactions between Al, TiO2 and C in liquid aluminum

摘要
The feasibility of synthesizing titanium carbide (TiC) and α Al 2O3 particles in Al matrix in molten liquid aluminum was investigated. The raw materials that were used for the synthesis include aluminum powder, graphite powder, TiO2 powder and commercial pure Al ingot which were milled for eight hours in a ball mill under argon atmosphere. The results show that Al alloys were successfully synthesized by reactions between Al, TiO2 and C in liquid medium. The TiC particle generated was spherical in shape and had a size of 0.3-1.5 μm, while α-Al 2O3 had a polyhedral shape and was 1-3 μm in size.
