At present, there are much higher calls for reform of public foreign language teaching. This paper, starting from the definition of comprehensive English or English for General Purpose (EGP for abbreviation) and academic English or English for Academic Purpose (EAP for abbreviation), analyzes the relationship between the two. On the basis of demand analysis from learners and society, this paper, taking college English teaching in economic universities as example, conducts an exploratory research from the aspects of teaching objectives, curriculum design, teaching contents, teaching methods and approaches, and evaluation and feedback, which provides references for college English teaching and reform in economic universities.
