Analysis of simulated reflection and transmission characteristics of phase-shifted fiber Bragg gratings for applications in optical communication systems

摘要
The paper is devoted to the analysis of the reflectance and the transmitance of phase-shifted Fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs). We demonstrated the transmission and reflection characteristics of phase-shifted FBGs with single or multiple phase-shift of the grating. The transmission and reflection characteristics were calculated by a transfer matrix method. Simulations of FBGs with phase-shifts alternating along the length of the grating and in the middle of the FBG have been described. The bandwidth, the reflectance and the transmittance at the Bragg wavelength for the grating length equals 10 cm with phase-shifts have been studied. The simulation results show that phase-shifted FBGs can be used as narrowband transmission filters while transmission characteristics are modified by changing the position and the amount of phase-shifts in the FBG.
