Knowledge Strategies for Increasing IC of Universities

The purpose of this paper is to explore the complex process of designing and implementing knowledge strategies in universities in order to increase their intellectual capital. Knowledge strategy is a semantic construct that reflects the interface between strategic thinking and knowledge management. It is essential in designing the future of the university and in creating a sustainable intellectual capital. The exploration is based on the three stages of intellectual capital research, on the theory of multifield organizational knowledge dynamics, and the theory of nonlinear integrators. The multifield theory considers three main knowledge fields: rational, emotional, and spiritual. These fields impact on the structure of intellectual capital suggesting new building blocks: rational intellectual capital, emotional intellectual capital, and spiritual intellectual capital. Also, the paper develops a new model of organizational intellectual capital based on entropic transformation of the potential intellectual capital into an operational intellectual capital, as a result of organizational integrators' work. The research shows that efforts should be made not only in increasing the potential level of the intellectual capital but also in making the entropic transformation more efficient to increase the operational level of the intellectual capital of the university.
