Numerical simulation of Shouda Mine in Japan using ubiquitous joint model

摘要
In this paper, the evaluation of methodology and stability for excavation of Shouda Mine in Okayama prefecture in Japan using numerical modeling analysis-i.e., FLAC, is introduced. Ubiquitous-Joint Model is adopted in this analysis, which accounts for the presence of an orientation of weak planes (weathering joints or bedding planes). Yielding may occur in either the solid or along the weak planes or both depending on the stress state, the orientation of the weak planes and the material properties of the solid and weak planes. The numerical modeling analysis provides a reasonable and safer excavation methodology.
