Flux pinning properties of YBCO thin films deposited on SrTiO3(100) and MgO(100) substrates

For applications of YBa2Cu3O7-x, (YBCO) thin films, the critical current density (J(c)) should be improved by introducing pinning centers into YBCO thin films. We prepared YBCO films on SrTiO3(1 0 0) and MgO(1 0 0) substrates by means of pulsed laser deposition in order to study the flux pinning properties of the films. The field angle dependence of J(c)(theta,B) measured at 77 K, where theta is the angle between magnetic field direction and film surface direction, was analyzed by the normalized J(c)(theta,B) and the peak component of J(c)(theta,B). We discussed the effects of substrate materials and deposition conditions on the flux pinning behaviors of the YBCO films. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
