Overview: The environment in which industrial R&D operates is continuing to evolve, at a pace that seems to be ever increasing. Within the enduring elements of R&D leadership-management of staff and content creation and dissemination, among otherssignificant changes in practice are emerging or can be expected to emerge over the next few years. These changes, their impact on R&D leadership, and a vision of what R&D leadership will need to be in the future are the focus of this article.
