Histogenesis of laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma

Discussion of the different forms of histopathogenesis of squamous cell carcinomas of the vocal cords. The way over simple epithelial hyperplasia, epithelium with slight dysplasias over carcinoma in situ to invasive carcinoma, is not in all cases followed. A number of carcinomas develop directly from the basal cells without disturbances of the upper layers of the epithelium. Few carcinomas arise from juvenile papillomas. Tumor markers appear as soon as the first dysplasias become visible and do not contribute much to diagnosis.
