摘要
A millimeter-wave mobile communication base-station of compact form factor is discussed which could provide tens of users within a range of several tens of meters with data-rates in excess of ten gigabit per second (Gbps) for each user ( that is, aggregate wireless throughput of the cell well above 100 Gbps). The discussion focuses on hardware aspects in order to identify key technologies and challenges. Innovative techniques like gradient-index lens antenna and chip-to-antenna coupling by means of spherical dielectric resonator make the system realistic using straightforward improvements of today's technology.
