New automatic measurement system for cone

The new automatic device developed to measure the position and angle parameters of cones uses an inductance sensor, a grating and an angle encoder as its measurement components, and uses three step motors to drive sensor's motion and cone's rotation. When the measured position of cone is rotated to horizontal, the probe of inductance sensor can track and get a group of data measured. The position and angle parameters can be calculated from these data and the geometrical relations involved. All error sources are then analyzed and it was found that the guide error, the inductance nonlinear error and grating's measuring error are primary elements. By demarcating grating with standard gauges and using linear compensation technology to revise the inductance sensor, the discrepancy of measured result between this system and CMM is less than 0.872mrad (3radmin) in angle and less than 0.03mm in distance.
