The proceedings paper relates Balmont’s correspondence with the Serbian poet, translator and consul in Helsingfors in the 1920s-30s Ivan Šajković (1876-1948), that stretches over a period of almost ten years. Balmont translated some poems by Šajković, and wrote repeatedly about him and his work; Šaiković translated Balmont’s poems into Serbian and dedicated an essay to him which was published in «Letopis Matice srpske» (1934). These letters offer new sidelights on Balmont’s life in emigration and shed light on his social and pro-Slavic stance and literary preferences. © 2019, Russian Academy of Sciences.
