摘要
This paper proposes a new external diaphragm connection detail. for steel beam to concrete-filled square tube column moment connections. This connection detail has divided external diaphragms, which reduces welding and thus simplifies the steelwork in comparison to conventional external diaphragm connection details. Tensile tests were carried out to investigate the local elastic-plastic behavior of the connections. The test results indicated that the structural behavior of the proposed connection detail was almost the same as that of the conventional connection detail. An analysis was applied to predict yield and ultimate strength. The analysis is based on superposition of the strength of a tube flange calculated from a grid beam model on that of the diaphragm. the predicted results were found to agree approximately with experimental results.
