Positioning independent power projects for success in developing economies: What strategies and challenges?

Independent Power Projects have gained attention as the viable option to provide effective solutions to the geographically fragmented nature of Electricity problems that plagued the Economic Developments in Developing Nations as found in Africa today. Developing economies had often used the traditional approaches to plan its Energy sector and are known to have economic, environmental, social and technical consequences on implementation. The links between energy demand and economic development have generated the need for adequate analysis of the role of sustainable electricity supply in economic processes. To this, much attention has to be given to strategies and challenges necessary for Independent power Projects success in Africa as will be examined in this paper.
