TOURISM DEVELOPMENT AND ITS IMPACT ON THE OVERALL ECONOMIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEVELOPMENT OF THE COUNTRY

Tourism has in fact a large impact on the economic growth of a country. Apart from the obvious hospitality industry benefits, there are many indirect impacts that are not noticeable but evident in the economy. The purpose of this paper is to outline the economic impact of tourism to growth and development of a country and especially the impact and the potential of the Green Tourism in creating new jobs and reducing poverty. By examining various economic factors, we can start to understand the benefits of tourism in GDP and the overall stability of the economy through higher employment. The benefits can occur directly, indirectly, and induced through different types of tourism. Job creation can be much higher in the tourism industry opposed to any other industry because of the indirect effects and trickledown effect of tourism activities. Majority of jobs generated in the tourism industry are accounted for in hotels and accommodations. These numbers can reach a high percentage of the tourism employment. The other percent is generated in transport, finances, insurance, and entertainment. In every hotel room there are multiple tasks that must be conducted on a daily basis allowing for the creation of many jobs per room.
