A robust routing protocol for wireless Mobile Ad hoc Networks

In this paper, we first explore route redundancy mechanisms as means to minimize route discovery latencies of MANET protocols. We propose a new scheme AODV-RR (Ad Hoc On-demand Distance Vector Protocol with Redundant Routes) with improved robustness. The presence of redundant routes allows provision of immediate alternative routes to salvage time-critical traffic flows upon link failures, hence increasing throughput and minimizing delay. Further improvements are obtained by adapting Route Expiry Timeout (R-ET) to mobility at the expense of slight increase in overhead.
