The main objective of this article is to show the most relevant contributions of Jose Luis Abellan, in tribute to a lifetime dedicated to the history of Spanish thought. First, a review is done of his intellectual biography, highlighting the events that marked him. To place the author in a historical and cultural context, a section of this article is dedicated to the Generation of 56, which can be described as the first youth opposition movement to the Franco regime. Finally, the main contributions of Abellan are analysed, such as his discovery of philosophical exile, the recovery of Ortega and Gasset, Erasmism, and the affirmation of Spanish thought.
