摘要
Gc protein is the precursor for the principal macrophage activating factor (MAF). The MAF precursor activity of serum Gc protein of HIV-infected patients was lost (in AIDS patients) or reduced because Gc protein is deglycosylated by serum alpha-N-acetylgalactosaminidase (Nagalase) secreted from HIV-infected cells, leading to immunosuppression. Nagalase was found to be the intrinsic component of gp120. Thus, serum Nagalase activity is proportional to the virus load. An enzymatically modified Gc protein (GcMAF), the most potent MAF, can eradicate virus and its infected cells. After approximately 10 to 15 weekly admini-strations of 100 ng GcMAF (once a week) for several patients, they exhibited low serum Nagalase activities equivalent to healthy controls. The curative process was confirmed by clearance of HIV viral antigens.
