Comparative Topology and Power Loss Study for High Power Density and High Conversion Ratio Integrated Switching Power Converters

摘要
This paper presents a theoretical topology and power loss study on three fundamental inductive switching converters, with focus on high power density and high conversion ratio. With high input voltage and at high switching frequency, efficiency of conventional half-bridge buck converters is severely degraded, due to significant switching loss. Zero-voltage-transition (ZVT) buck and 3-level buck converters become more attractive in this scenario. Detailed power loss breakdowns of the two converter topologies are derived and verified to examine their effectiveness on efficiency improvement. New design method is proposed to achieve optimized design for both efficiency and power density.
