AWARENESS ON THE ALLOYS USED IN FIXED PARTIAL DENTURE AMONG DENTAL STUDENTS

Introduction:-An alloy is cast using the precision investment procedure in dental laboratories to fit accurately to the prepared tooth or teeth, and to form a substrate (termed the coping) for the porcelain. This balanced appraisal of cost factors, chemical properties, and physical properties related to the intended clinical use of the materials provides a basis for alloy selection. Aim:-To assess the knowledge and awareness regarding the use of alloys in fixed partial denture among the dental students. Materials and Methods:- A closed- ended questionnaire comprising 15 questions were given to 101 dental students and their responses were analysed and tabulated. Results:-Majority of the dental students were aware about the use of alloys in the fixed partial denture. About 91.09% of the students were aware about the alloys used in the fixed partial denture. 87.13% of the students were aware that the alloys are the combination of two or more metals in molten state. 51.49% of the students were aware about the noble alloys used in dentistry. 57.43% of the students know that pure gold alloy is non toxic. Conclusion:-The dental students were aware of the use of alloys and its various superior properties in fixed partial denture. Therefore various awareness lectures or programmes should be conducted among the dental students so as to further increase their knowledge about the alloys.
