A weight function analysis of R-curve behavior in gradient alumina-zirconia composites

摘要
The single-edge-V-notched-beam (SEVNB) testing geometry was used to measure the crack growth resistance (R-curve) behavior of gradient multilaycr alumina-zirconia composites. Fracture mechanics weight function analysis was applied to estimate the change in the apparent fracture toughness as a function of notch position, resulting from residual thermal stress distributions. These results were then used to differentiate the influence of residual stress from other closure stresses attributed to crack bridging on the measured R-curve behavior.
