A detailed summary of the current state-of-the-art knowledge about acne, its pathogenesis, and treatment is presented for the primary care clinician. New drugs and treatments for scarring are discussed. Treating preteenagers and teenagers at the earliest, noninflammatory stages of acne is essential to prevent both physical and psychological scarring.
