THE CHALLENGE OF IMPLEMENTING SUSTAINABILITY REPORTS IN HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS

摘要
This work aims to analyze a non-profit Community Institution of Higher Education, located in the interior of the state of Sao Paulo, to verify the possibility of implementing a sustainability report, having as premises the guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). The research has a qualitative approach, with a documental data collection procedure and content analysis as a data analysis technique. The results indicate that the guidelines of a sustainability report, as per the GRI primer, can be applied at the studied HEI. To produce its own sustainability report, the HEI needs to adjust some methods involving: organization of information and strategic actions; training of people to organize information and produce the report; awareness and mobilization of the academic community to engage in sustainable actions; adoption of strategies so that sustainable actions are inserted and practiced, becoming part of the culture on the institution's campuses and establishment of annual sustainable goals, aiming at the improvement of the sustainability report. The elaboration of its own sustainability report will allow the studied HEI to provide positive values, such as the increase of chances of market loyalty and the periodic analysis of data to compare its performance with other HEIs.
