摘要
The increasing social inclusion of people with intellectual disability in society has led to greater visibility and greater exposure to risky behaviors such as substance use. A systematic review of alcohol consumption in the population with intellectual disability is presented from a systematic review in the main databases and an analysis following the PRISMA method in which 24 articles were included. There are high rates of alcohol consumption in individuals with intellectual disability and especially in youth, men and those who have committed a crime. The age of onset, risk factors and reasons for alcohol consumption are similar to the non intellectual disability population. Effective evidence-based prevention and intervention programs for substance use need to be accessible to individuals with intellectual disability.
