ZrAg and Zr2Ag phases studied by perturbed angular correlation with 181Ta probes

The electric quadrupole hyperfine interactions for Hf-181/Ta-181 probes in polycrystalline ZrAg and Zr2Ag were measured in the temperature range 24 - 1100 K and compared with the results of previous experiments on isostructural Hf-Ag compounds. For both phases one unique quadrupole frequency v(Q) with asymmetry parameter eta = 0 was observed in accordance with the B11 and C11(b) structures of the ZrAg and Zr2Ag phases, respectively. On the basis of the chemical similarities of Zr and Hf, the Hf-181 probes can be considered as the constituent atoms in Zr-Ag alloys. In both matrices they were found to substitute the Zr site.
