摘要
Purpose. The aim of the presented study is to report the research in progress on heterarchical coordination within an inter-organizational network in the tourism sector. Design/methodology/approach. Due to relative novelty of phenomena examined and a lack of empirical studies in the field, the study follows the qualitative approach and the case study research design, suggested for explorative studies. Findings. The study is in progress and first findings have been reported. The results have shown that heterarchy is a proper form of coordination for distributed inter-firm network with the high presence of SME's operating in a tourism sector. Research implications. Further empirical studies are required including both next in-depth case studies and also cross sectoral large-n quantitative research. Based on the study, some interesting research streams might be developed e.g.: evolution of coordination mechanisms over time and the role of interpersonal ties in network functioning.
