摘要
Thirty-eight previously healthy, well-appearing children with severe neutropenia (absolute neutrophil count less than 500/mm(3)), and fever were analyzed. Blood cultures were negative in all cases; a bacterial infection was found in 2 children and it was readily diagnosed on clinical grounds at their first visit. Antibiotic therapy was started in only 14 patients. All children recovered uneventfully.
