A dedicated environment for the simulation of backpropagation neural networks on a general-purpose hypercube parallel computer

摘要
In this paper we discuss a home-made dedicated software environment for the simulation of Backpropagation Neural Networks on a 64-node nCUBE2 (a 2(nd) generation hypercube parallel computer). The software runs on a UNIX workstation (SUN) that through PVM connects to the (Silicon Graphics Iris) host of the parallel machine. The interface allows for user-friendly menu-based access. Application examples of the environment are considered. In an appendix, the parallel implementation of the Backpropagation Neural Network (with use of a mixture of neuron and weight parallelism) is briefly discussed as well as the parallel performance results achieved.
