Vortex-lattice melting in high-Tc superconductors

The magnetisation "step" associated with the vortex-lattice "melting" transition in high-T-c superconductors is investigated using a rigorous treatment for the magnetisation behaviour of a disc-shaped specimen. The analysis yields the flux density, field and magnetisation profiles in the specimen and predicts an intermediate state with the expected behaviour at the solid/liquid interface. Calculations are also made for comparison with experimental magnetisation data on a BSCCO single-crystal disc specimen.
