On Seamless Offloading of Delay Sensitive Vehicular Services over Mobile Edge Computing

摘要
Mobile-edge computing (MEC) is a promising paradigm to improve the quality of computation experience for vehicles. Thanks to the reduced latency and high computational capability the MEC can offer, the conventional split between on-board (vehicle) vs off-board (server) computation will be revolutionized while allowing a seamless experience even for delay-sensitive services. In this paper, we show the effectiveness of an optimal selection of a sub-set of available MECs for service replication, necessary to satisfy an offloaded request submitted by a vehicle, while ensuring service continuity in a mobility environment. Our algorithm self adapts to meet any given risk target which is a metric introduced to assess service continuity while minimizing the overall power consumption and respecting the hardware constraints of the MEC.
