In the current work, two models of heat transport and energy input in deep penetration laser beam welding (LBW) and gas metal are welding (GMAW) will be presented. The simulation is based on the modelling of the heat transfer with consideration of the velocity field in the weld pool and the pool surface depression influenced by are or vapour pressure, surface tension and gravity. With the implemented computation algorithms, predictions of the quality of the joint can be provided. This allows the reduction of the experimental expense of the development and optimisation of welding methods. A comparison of the theoretical results with experimental data is given.
