Electrosynthesis of CdCr2S4 thin films and their characterization

Thin films of CdCr2S4 are electrosynthesized from an aqueous acidic bath consisting of 0.05 M CdSO4-0.5 M Na2S2O3-2.5 M CrO3 onto stainless steel, indium-tin oxide coated glass and titanium substrates. The estimated deposition potentials are found to be dependent on pH, temperature and composition of the bath. The XRD studies showed that the films are polycrystalline and of the composition corresponding to CdCr2S4. The optical bandgap of CdCr2S4 is estimated to be 2.4 eV. The scanning electron microscopy study shows that the films are continuous. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.
