Ferroelectricity in Pb(Li1/4Dy1/4Mo1/2)O3 ceramics

Polycrystalline samples of Pb(Li1/4Dy1/4Mo1/2)O-3 have been prepared by a solid-state reaction technique at low temperature (700 degrees C). Preliminary X-ray studies suggest the formation of a single phase orthorhombic compound at room temperature (RT = 20 degrees C). Extensive studies of SEM and EDAX confirm the homogeneity and presence of desired elements in the compound. Detailed studies of the dielectric constant (epsilon), loss tangent (tan delta) as a function of frequency (10(3) Hz-10(4) Hz) and temperature (-150 degrees C to 160 degrees C) and spontaneous polarization (P-S) as a function of temperature (30 degrees C to 107 degrees C) suggest that the compound has electrically reversible polarization and it undergoes a ferro-paraelectric phase transition at 93 degrees C. Studies of dc resistivity as a function of both biasing field and temperature suggest that the compound has a negative temperature coefficient (NTC) effect above 100 degrees C.
