This discussion will focus on advancements in welding equipment design in both the robot controllers and in the welding equipment. Recent advancements in serial communication improve the overall performance of welding robot systems. The paper will also focus on the use of software for artificial machine intelligence to micro manage weld metal transfer. These improvements can reduce smoke and spatter and can increase travel speeds and deposition rates. In addition, new robotic process variations such as "dip pulse," low pulse and tandem MIG welding will be discussed.
